From: Tammy Smith
To: All NRCC Students
Subject: NRCC Sexual Harassment Policy (Title IX)
Sent: Friday, September 18, 2026 11:33 AM
Dear Students,
The
NRCC Sexual Harassment Policy (also referred to as Title IX) is available at:
the NRCC Student Handbook, along with resources for victims of sexual assault
and domestic violence. As a member of the NRCC campus community, it is important that you familiarize yourself with
the policy. A brief overview is included below:.
The Title IX federal law prohibits sexual discrimination and sexual harassment on college campuses. Prohibited
conduct includes:
- Sexual harassment
- Sexual assault
- Sexual exploitation
- Domestic violence
- Dating violence
- Stalking
Sexual harassment also includes creating a hostile environment through unwelcome conduct determined by a reasonable
person to be so severe, pervasive, and objectively offensive that it affects a student’s educational experience.
This can include unwelcome sexual comments. The law also prohibits retaliation towards individuals who report
alleged prohibited conduct. The college will investigate all allegations and reports of prohibited conduct.
Reports of sexual harassment and prohibited conduct may be reported to me, as the Dean of Student Services and
Title IX Coordinator for Students, or to John Bowler, Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Students (Office 115 at the
Christiansburg site, 540-674-3600, ext. 4418, jbowler@nr.edu).

- Available tuition payment plan options and how to apply for one, if needed
Tuition and Fees
Tuition and fees for fall 2026 are now visible in the Student Information System (SIS). The amount

to your VCCS email account and mailed to your home address. All students, regardless of
financial aid, scholarships, ACCE awards, etc. receive a tuition bill.
More information on tuition and fees is available at

Follow these steps to view your tuition and fees:
- Go to www.nr.edu
- Log in to MyAccounts with your VCCS credentials
- Click on Student Information System (SIS)
- Your tuition and fees will appear in the Finances section
Tuition Payment Plans
Tuition payment plans are available each semester. The first day you can enroll in a fall payment plan is Monday,
July 1. Early enrollment allows for the maximum number of payments. Details about the payment plans, enrollment
dates, payment amounts, etc. are available at:
https://www.nr.edu/business/pp.php.
NRCC partners with Nelnet Campus Commerce to let you pay your tuition and fees over time, allowing you to plan for
tuition instead of paying for it all at once. Here are a few perks of setting up a payment plan:
Easy Enrollment
It’s easy to set up a payment plan – simply click on the link below or click on “Apply for a Payment Plan” from
your Student Center in SIS.

The State Board for Virginia’s Community Colleges has approved tuition and fee changes for the 2026–27 academic
year, beginning Fall 2026. Tuition and mandatory Educational & General (E&G) fees will increase by $6.70 per credit

Course fees are additional charges associated with specific classes. These fees help cover costs that directly
support your learning experience.
Why do some courses have fees?
Course fees may be used to support things like:
- Specialized equipment or materials
- Software, tools, or instructional resources
- Lab supplies or hands-on learning experiences
When do course fees apply?
- Course fees only apply to certain classes
- Not all courses have fees
- Any applicable fees are connected to the specific course you enroll in
Where can I see my course fees?
- During registration
- In your student account summary

Subject: Follow-Up and Support after Friday's Lockdown
Sent: Monday, February 23, 2026 8:35 AM
Dear Students:
I want to follow up on the messages you received Friday regarding the lockdown on campus this Friday.
The safety of our campus community remains our highest priority. While this incident ultimately proved not to be a
threat, we must remain vigilant at all times. Situations like this are why we conduct drills and training. I was
proud by everyone's seriousness and composure during the event, and law enforcement commented on level of
cooperation and preparedness they encountered on campus.
Please know everyone is safe, and the call that prompted the lockdown proved to be unfounded after a thorough
investigation by law enforcement. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the source of the call.
We also recognize situations like this are stressful and unsettling. Please know that your NRCC family is here to
support you.

NRCC Sexual Harassment Policy (Friday, September 5, 2025)
From: Tammy Smith
To: All NRCC Students
Subject: NRCC Sexual Harassment Policy
Sent: Friday, September 5, 2025 9:00 AM
Dear Students,
The NRCC Sexual Harassment Policy (also referred to as Title IX) is available at:
https://www.nr.edu/preparedness/title_ix.php.
Additionally, the
policy, along with resources for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence are included in the Student
Handbook: https://www.nr.edu/sh/. As a member of the NRCC campus community, it
is important that you familiarize yourself with the policy. A brief overview is included below:
The college will investigate all allegations and reports of
prohibited conduct.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to John or me with any questions you may have.

Phishing Scams (Wednesday, May 21, 2025 )
From: Tammy Smith

Subject: Phishing Scams
The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) has been monitoring a spike in phishing scams directed at student
accounts. These can take the form of an alert about expiring access to Microsoft Office, but they have also have
been about part-time jobs. Typically, once a student account is compromised, that account is used to send more
phishing and spam.
Scammers are attempting to gain access to login information and e-mail addresses. They will ask recipients to click
on a link to apply and/or to send a resume from their personal e-mail account to an unknown Gmail address. DO NOT
CLICK THIS LINK AND DO NOT PROVIDE ANY INFORMATION.
The VCCS is aware of these incidents, and is actively investigating, refining compliance rules, and remediating
accounts.
Colleges will never request personal information, passwords, Social Security Number, or financial details through
email or text.
