Selection Criteria for Title III Online Course Development

The Title III selection committee will use the following set of criteria in the selection of courses for online development.

Potential Enrollment

  1. Do topics, title and segments have high interest?
  2. Is interest level documented by any data?
  3. Is the course of general appeal or does it target a relatively small group of potential students?
Potential Longevity
  1. Will the subject matter become obsolete to soon to permit long-term (2-4 years) utilization without major revisions?
  2. Is the course material too topical to allow long-term (2-4 years) appeal?
Adaptability to Distance Learning Style Delivery
  1. Will the course be comparable in academic quality to on-campus offerings?
  2. Is the proposed course construction consistent with the Independent Learning mission and concept?
Cost
  1. Is the estimated cost within reasonable limits in terms of anticipated use?
  2. Will delivery of the course be cost-effective in terms of time needed by Title III staff?
  3. Does the proposed course have potential marketability to other colleges?
Adaptability to Web Delivery
  1. Will web delivery of materials enhance the overall effectiveness of the course?
  2. How will the technology be used to maximize the learner's experience in the course?
  3. Is learner performance as easily measured using the web as it is in a traditional classroom environment?
Course Requirements
  1. Does the course require on-campus labs or special equipment/software usage?
  2. Does the course require face-to-face interaction (meetings, workshops, seminars)?
